VietNamNet Bridge – Singer Duc Tuan is starting to realise his world ambition. The pioneer of classic crossover music in Viet Nam, he is about to sign a three-year contract with a foreign company.

Tuan has worked with several foreign voice coaches, well known conductor Paul Bateman and recording engineer Colin Boland. Both have toured with Sarah Brightman and Jessy Norman.
Tuan speaks about his plan to turn his dream into reality.

How long have you been waiting for news of your contract?

Early this year, I met a representative of a large recording company at the world's biggest music trade fair MIDEM, held annually in Cannes. The fair provides a forum for business talks and is a platform for showcasing new artists, musical trends and music-related products.

At this time, I don't want to reveal name of the company because I haven't signed the contract officially. I could say that it is a big company managing singers like Judie Tzuke and Stephen Bishop. It has also worked with Seal, Britney Spears and Tom Jones.

They listened to my CD and wanted me to sign up. In the first year, I will learn English singing skills. Then for the next two years, the company will manage everything related to my career. During this period, I will have a chance to take part in musical activities in the US and Britain.

My previous albums will be reproduced and sold in foreign markets. For me, it is a really precious opportunity.

The US and Britain have a lot of classic-crossover and musical singers. Do you think you will be accused of carrying coal to Newcastle?

It is very tough for overseas artists in their markets. But the company sees things in an enlightened way. They are interested in my plans and believe I will gain valuable experiences. I always make good use of any opportunity.

You are among a few Vietnamese singers who have recently produced music in foreign countries. What did you think of your latest music production in Germany?

I have known composer Vincent Nguyen long time ago. We planned the project for two years. It was brought together in a studio in Bonn. Despite the large amount of money spent on the project, I feel secure about its quality.

I want to produce a music album of international standard for Vietnamese audiences.

Do you think you are adventurous?

I'm not adventurous. I think high quality albums are achievable. I was said to be adventurous when I made the musical disc Music of The Night in 2009.

I don't think high quality music production on audiophile or blue-ray discs cost much more money. I want to serve all kinds of listeners, popular, middle and high class.
