VietNamNet Bridge – Indoor mountaineering is a popular sports in many countries. It has been in Vietnam for several years now.

In Hanoi, an indoor mountaineering club named “Vietclimb” has opened for nearly two months and it has had many members.

The club is located in a small valley in An Duong ward, Hoan Kiem district. With a total area of 300 square meters, the club has two mountaineering rooms, a 20sq.m room for kids and 200sq.m room for adults. The entrance fee is VND180,000 ($6) per person a day.

In these rooms, “mountains” are built from big wood pieces with the height from 3 to 8 meters. There are notches of different colors on the wood pieces. The floors are covered by over-40cm thick foam rubber pieces to protect climbers.

According to Dave, a coach at the club, the colors of notches show the difficulty of climbing exercises. The difficulty level of exercises increases from yellow, orange, green, blue, red, etc.

The club attracts many young people, both Vietnamese and foreigners.

Vietclimb was opened by Jean Verly, 30, a professional mountain-climber, whose father is French and mother is a Vietnamese.

Verly suffered an accident while climbing up the Mont Blanc mountain (over 4,800m), at the age of 15. Since then he had to give up this sports.
