YouTube has recently stated that the video-sharing social network platform has approached more than 50 million adults in Vietnam. 73.5 percent of adults in Vietnam use YouTube out of total 68 million adults.

The figures have been extracted from Google’s internal statistics and a Kantar survey on 2,063 weekly video viewers aged 18 to 64 in Vietnam. The survey was conducted from May 26, 2023 to June 13, 2023.

The survey found that if users in Vietnam could use only one service in the year, the No1 platform they would choose would be YouTube.

YouTube also ranks first in Vietnam as the social network channel with the most diverse content, allowing users to access many different types of content, such as short videos, long videos, or live videos.

YouTube has been improving to satisfy the changing tastes of Vietnamese viewers, while it has witnessed strong growth in both content and audiences’ interaction level.

As of June 2023, the total number of hours of content uploaded to YouTube by channels in Vietnam had doubled that of the same period last year. Meanwhile, the duration spent on watching TV drama videos on YouTube in the second quarter 2023 increased by 60 percent.

Vietnam has had 15,000 more channels with 100,000 registrants, an increase of 30 percent over the same period last year. More than 50 percent of the total amount of time for watching content produced by channels in Vietnam is by foreigners

According to Marc Woo, managing director for Vietnam and Asia Pacific Google, Vietnamese users have increasingly high passion for YouTube, thus helping YouTube become the No1 video social network platform in Vietnam in terms of content diversification.

YouTube is reserved for all groups of audiences and offers many choices, from short-term (six second) videos to documentary films that last two hours, as well as multi-chapter TV dramas.

The success is gained as reputable ad marketing units and broadcasting units have chosen to create and share attractive content with entertainment value on YouTube.

In addition to supporting content creators, Google and YouTube have worked with domestic appropriate agencies to ‘clean’ Vietnam’s cyberspace

According to the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), from August 15 to September 14, 2023, Google removed 380 videos from YouTube. In addition, Google has eliminated seven channels with 23,733 videos which post content against the Communist Party of Vietnam and the state.
