VietNamNet Bridge – On December 11, Heritage Space will host a special musical night entitled Poems by Zither.

The concert will feature the dan tranh (zither) performer Nguyen Thanh Thuy, who will team up with Doan Thanh Binh, a cheo (traditional opera) and ca tru (ceremonial singing) singer. The performance aims to show poetry in music and the encounter between traditional and contemporary music.

The night will also introduce three new works composed by Thuy, American composer Bill Brooks, and Swedish Henrik Frisk. The three new compositions feature recitation and đàn tranh accompaniment reminiscent of the chanting style developed by Irish poet William Butler Yeats.

A lecturer at the Viet Nam National Academy of Music, since 2012 Thuy has carried out an artistic doctorate decree at the Malmö Academy of Music in Sweden.

Poems by Zither will take place from 8pm to 10pm.
