Designer Cong Tri said he had quickly completed the yellow gown with a super-high leg split to suit Beyoncé’s measurements so that she could wear it at the event.
The gown was made with metallic organza, in bright yellow.

Beyoncé voices Nala in the movie, in which she also sang Can You Feel the Love Tonight.

“I’m so luckly that I don’t have to pay for international stars to wear my designs,” Tri said. “I decided the style, material and colour for the gown and it took me just two days to complete it.”

Nguyen Cong Tri is from the central city of Da Nang, while his eponymous label is based in HCM City.

Cong Tri, who turns 41 this year, studied industrial design before moving into fashion. He has shown his collections at Vietnam and Tokyo Fashion Weeks before debuting on the New York schedule in February with his autumn/winter 2019 collection.

Specialising in ornately detailed designs, he describes his aesthetic as “modern dresses that capture the flavours of the season.”

For example, his AW17 collection was inspired by the flower sellers on Vietnam's streets. He created oversized shirts and dresses with floral 3D embellishments.

His AW16 collection represents Vietnamese female farmers. He used traditional silk and weaving techniques to create fringed dresses and separates in modern silhouettes.

Besides Beyoncé, other popular show biz figures like Rita Ora, Katy Perry, Kate Boswort, and Gabrielle Union have chosen various creations by the designer.

“Cong Tri is said to be particularly popular with Hollywood stylists who recommend the designer to their A-list clients,” the Irish Examiner newspaper commented in its website.

“Now that Beyoncé has given the emerging designer her seal of approval, we think plenty more stylists – and stars – will come calling soon,” the newspaper posted.
