The first qualifying match took place on July 24 between Duy Nhat and his opponent Kim Falk of Sweden. The Vietnamese fighter started strongly and was able to defeat his rival 10-9 in the first set.
Utilising his superior skill set and experience, the Vietnamese martial artist went onto knock Kim Falk out in the second set to win the tie.
Duy Nhat will next face off against a martial artist from Jordan in the quarterfinal stage of the tournament.
The Muay Thai World Championships 2019 is serving as the second qualification event for the upcoming World Games 2021, slated to take place in the United States.
This year’s event has attracted over 1,000 martial artists competing across 15 different weight classes. The competition is scheduled to end on July 29.
The contest follows the same format as an Olympic-style tournament. In order to win gold, a player has to go through the qualification process before progressing to the quarterfinals, semifinals, and final, depending on the number of athletes competing in that weight class.
