Thuan wins first prize at the National Young Informatics Contest.

School principal Mr. Nguyen Nho Hoa said that Thuan is one of three students from Bac Ninh who were selected to participate in the 2021 Asian Olympiads.

“Thuan is a student with special circumstances. He was born with a disability, has difficulty in moving, but has a great will and energy. We, the teachers, are motivated and excited by his efforts."

Hoa said that when Thuan was an 11th grade student at Que Vo High School, he won third prize in informatics in the national excellent student competition. Realizing the great effort of Thuan and his mother, managers of Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted asked for the provincial Department of Education and Training’s approval to recruit Thuan.

The school arranged a room for Thuan and his mother in the school campus in order to facilitate Thuan’s studies. The teachers at Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted were also willing to give Thuan free tutoring.

As a 12th grader, Thuan won second prize in informatics at the national contest for excellent students and also first prize in informatics at the National Youth Informatics Competition. He was selected to represent Vietnam at the Asian Informatics Olympiad this year.

Mrs. Do Thi Hoai San, Thuan's mother, said that Thuan’s success is thanks to his teachers’ assistance.

Thuan’s teacher at Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted gave 7 free tutoring sessions a week for Thuan. The teachers at the High School of Natural Sciences for the Gifted who took Thuan to Hanoi created favorable conditions for him to study with members of the school’s selected team.

Earlier, when Thuan was a 2nd pupil, Thuan also received his teacher’s assistance. She was not rich but she borrowed money for cover Thuan’s leg operation.

Although there were times when she felt hopeless looking to the future, now with the grace of so many people and the efforts of her child, the mother has gained belief, hope and confidence.

“Thuan is very brave. He rarely complained or was peevish. I learned a lot from my son,” Mrs. San said.
