The Ca Mau Police Department for Investigation on July 4 wrote to Ca Mau Province’s Commission for Information and Education noting that the rumors of workers at the plant finding dead fetuses in garbage bags were true. However, the number of bodies and the time of death remain unknown, according to the note.

At a meeting with the competent agencies, Cong Ly Construction-Trading-Tourism Co., which is the main investor in the waste treatment plant in the province, showed 83 bills for burial shrouds worth VND16 million.

On June 7, the provincial Police Department for Investigation excavated the sites used for burying nine terracotta jars, which reportedly contained dead fetuses.

The examination by the Criminal Sciences Institute, under the Ministry of Public Security, revealed that the test samples were human bones in the fetal stage.

The department will continue to collaborate with the province’s procuracy and the competent departments and agencies to act on the reported information in line with the Criminal Proceedings Code.

Cong Ly had earlier acknowledged the dead fetuses and had written to the Ca Mau government to ask for support with handling them.

The plant has discovered over 300 dead fetuses in garbage dumps over the past seven years, according to the report sent to the provincial government. SGT
