Of the investment, US$17 million was proposed to be sought from the Danish Government's official development assistance loans and the remaining US$2 million from the city’s budget.
The project is expected to be executed between 2020 and 2023.
According to the municipal government, the project is aimed at improving the HCMC Steering Center of the Urban Flood Control Program’s and other relevant agencies’ capacity to forecast and warn of flood risks by modernizing hydrometeorology stations and developing database centers in the lower areas of the Saigon and Dong Nai rivers.
The city’s ability to manage and operate a flood prevention and control system and reduce environmental pollution is expected to be improved as well.

Major anti-flooding project rushes to finish line in HCMC
The first phase of the anti-flooding project in HCMC was kicked off on June 26, 2017 with the total capital of VND10 trillion (US$429.74 million) comprising of six tidal control sewers and five embankments with the total length of 7,801 kilometers.
