Thu Thiem New Urban Area

Municipal authorities have sent the proposal to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. 

According to the municipal people’s committee, HCM City has yet to construct any major political or cultural structure associated with the city growth since 1975.

The city wants to carry out a project, including a central square and riverside park in District 2’s Thu Thiem new urban area.

The 27-hectare project can accommodate up to 430,000 visitors for cultural festivals and up to 230,000 people for political events.

The square named after the late president Ho Chi Minh is designed to have a flag tower, and replicas of Uncle Ho’s stilt house and fishpond.

The committee added that the city has studied the project for more than one year.
