The flight numbered VN31 was supposed to take off at 10.30 pm on May 28 at Tan Son Nhat Airport in HCM City to Frankfurt, Germany.

However, it was delayed by 33 minutes in order to wait for a connecting passenger from a flight in Hanoi.

The flight from Hanoi to HCM City was delayed because of weather conditions.

Vietnam Airlines announced that the VN31 flight was still able to arrive in Germany on time, at 7.02 am on May 29.

There were rumours that the connecting passenger was given the privilege because he was a leader of a big corporation.

Vietnam Airlines responded that it was international practice if the previous flight was delayed then the airlines would adjust the takeoff time to wait for connecting passengers.

This was common practice on long-distance international flights.

Vietnam Airlines has four weekly flights to Frankfurt and if the connecting passenger misses the flight from HCM City to Frankfurt, they would have to return to Hanoi to take another flight.

However, the delayed flight on May 28 also affected the rest of the passengers and Vietnam Airlines wanted to apologise to 200 passengers on the plane.

"Vietnam Airlines sincerely apologises to our passengers for the inconvenience and unexpected wait time," the airlines representative said. Dtinews
