One person is reported to have died and eight others were injured in the central provinces of Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Tri and Quang Binh due to Typhoon Rai.

The typhoon also blew away the roofs of 222 buildings in the localities as it passed through these central provinces on Monday evening.
Thua Thien-Hue Province’s centre for flood, storm prevention and rescue yesterday reported that a man in Phu Loc District died after strong winds swept him into the local river, while another in Quang Dien was seriously injured when a tree fell on him.
In Quang Tri, seven people were injured when their houses collapsed.
A total of 222 buildings in the provinces have collapsed or have had their roofs blown away - 41 in Thua Thien-Hue, 151 in Quang Tri and 30 in Quang Binh. All schools in Thua Thien-Hue were shut down yesterday. Power has been cut in almost the entire locality.
Some 93ha of rice, rubber, cassava and vegetables in the locality were destroyed because of strong winds and heavy rains.
Rai, this year’s category 5 storm, emerged from the East Sea and moved directly to the central of Vietnam before it weakened into a tropical low pressure system after arriving at the regional coast with wind speeds of 62-74kmph.
