Up to 14 people were killed, two left missing and 23 injured in landslides and flash floods caused in Nha Trang City after heavy rains caused by tropical depression Toraji.

Many residential areas were destroyed. Nui Village in Phuoc Dong Commune is the hardest hit. Many schools are damaged and traffic has been paralysed as the majority of the streets are under water. Pupils were allowed to stay home because of the severity of the flood. The road dividers at some places were also swept away.

On November 18, many households were evacuated with many leaving their belongings behind.

Nguyen Sy Khanh, vice chairman of Nha Trang City, confirmed that as of 6.30 am on November 19, 14 people had died. "The damage and fatality are too grave. The rescuers searched for the missing people from dawn till dusk and the search continues today," he said.

Traffic to and from Nha Trang has returned to normal as blockages on the Luong Son-Phong Thanh railway route was cleared on November 18. However, the trains have to move slowly as the authorities are still reinforcing sections damaged by landslides.

The flooded streets in Nha Trang have also been cleared and the rains stopped.
