At the monthly cabinet meeting on March 26, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said that after this meeting 20 out of 27 members of the Government will retire or change their positions so they will no longer participate in the subsequent cabinet meetings as cabinet members.

On April 6 the National Assembly will elect the new prime minister and on April 8 the NA will approve the new cabinet members.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung specified 15 out of 20 Government members who will retire, including: Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung; Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh; Defense Minister Phung Quang Thanh; Minister of Justice Ha Hung Cuong; Minister of Planning and Investment Bui Quang Vinh; Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang; Minister of Home Affairs Nguyen Thai Binh; Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan; Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Pham Thi Hai Chuyen; Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh; Minister of Education and Training Pham Vu Luan; Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities Affairs Giang Seo Phu; Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Minh Quang; Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Bac Son; and Government Inspector General Huynh Phong Tranh.

The five members of the Government who will assume new positions are: Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai; Minister of Public Security Tran Dai Quang; Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang; State Bank of Vietnam Governor Nguyen Van Binh; and Chairman of the Government Office Nguyen Van Nen.

There are seven cabinet members who will continue to work in the Government including Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc (recommended by the Party Central Committee for being elected by the the National Assembly as the Prime Minister); Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh; Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam; Finance Minister Dinh Tien Dung; Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat; Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien; and Minister of Construction Trinh Dinh Dung.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung also mentioned some other personnel who are leaders of government agencies, including: Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, Chair of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, who will work at the Ho Chi Minh National Political Institute; Mr. Nguyen Dang Tien, General Director of the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) who will retire; Mr. Nguyen The Ky, Deputy head of the Central PR and Education Committe, who has been appointed to replace Tien as the head of VOV.

According to Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, the Government of the 13th term has not ended yet, with three more cabinet meeting in April, May, and June. In mid-July, the 14th National Assembly will elect the new Government.
