The third consultation meeting of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee.

On April 14, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front approved a list of 197 candidates from the central agencies who run for the membership of the National Assembly.

Of them, 113 candidates come from agencies of the National Assembly, 31 from the Vietnam Fatherland Front, 17 from the government, and 15 from the military.

In the government sector, in addition to Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, three Deputy Prime Ministers - Truong Hoa Binh, Vuong Dinh Hue and Pham Binh Minh, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Nguyen Xuan Cuong and Director of the National University, HCM City - Phan Thanh Binh.

The Minister of Public Security and the Ministry of Defence, under the arrangement of the National Election Council, do not belong to the government sector, but the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of National Defense.

In the previous National Assembly term (2011-2016), the government had 17 members participating in the National Assembly, including the Prime Minister, four Deputy Prime Ministers and 12 ministers.

According to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, most of the 197 candidates won the confidence of 100% of local constituents. Five candidates received complaintsfrom voters. Of these, one was verified to be clear from groundless complaints. The remaining cases are under verification.

According to the electoral process, the National Election Council will publish the list of candidates before April 27. From May 2 to 21 the candidates can campaign at voters’ meetings or on mass media. On May 22, the national election will be held to elect 500 deputies of the 14th National Assembly.

 

Candidates from central agencies for 14th NA election approved

The Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee (VFFCC)’s Presidium held the third consultation meeting on April 14 to approve the official list of 197 candidates nominated by central organisations for the election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly.

In his speech, Nguyen Thien Nhan, Politburo Member, VFFCC President and Vice Chairman of the National Election Council, said after the second consultation meeting, the Standing Committee of VFFCC introduced the names and biographies of all the 197 candidates to collect feedback from voters where each nominated candidate resides.

According to reports on the collection, which was completed on April 12, as many as 192 people received 100 percent confidence from voters, while five others got between 97.6 percent and 99.3 percent.

Speaking at the conference, NA Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong stressed the need to ensure transparency and equality among voters during meetings with them, adding that candidates should present their tasks and responsibilities if they win the election.

Members of the National Election Council should pay attention to performing election–related inspections, to addressing any difficulties in election areas.

After the third consultation meeting, agencies and organisations will organise meetings with voters for candidates to arrange electoral campaigns, which will begin when the official list of candidates is announced (April 27) and finish one day before the Election Day (before 7 am of May 21).

The election of deputies to the 14th NA will take place on May 22, which is a Sunday as in line with the law.-VNA
