LucTeam will stage the comedy Quẫn (Insanity) tonight in a contemporary expressionist style, which is rarely seen in Vietnamese spoken dramas.

Written by late dramatist Lộng Chương in the 1950s, the comedy became a phenomenon of Vietnamese theatre, being staged at least 2,000 times. The notable work is considered representative of modern Vietnamese theatre.

The story is about an upper-middle-class man, Dai Cat, and his family’s efforts to disperse and hide their wealth after they are ordered to hand over their property to the new government. Dai Cat aims to get around the issue by giving his daughter a dowry and giving some property away to his wife.

However, the daughter knows what her father is trying to do and does not agree with him. With her nursemaid’s help, she finds out where her father hides his gold and takes all of it to the authorities.

LucTeam actors, under the direction of famous actor Tran Luc, have staged the comedy with contemporary expressionism, a style rarely seen in Vietnamese spoken drama.

The performance will start at 8pm. L’Espace is at 24 Trang Tien Street, Hanoi. Tickets cost VND200,000, 300,000 or 500,000.
