VietNamNet Bridge – The Vietnam Outstanding Young Face Award is a prestigious prize granted annually by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union’s Central Committee to young people who make outstanding achievements and dedication.

For the past 20 years, the award has honored 200 young people. All of the award winners have developed well in their fields and many of them have achieved great success.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung presented the award to ten 10 outstanding young people in 2013.


At a recent press conference, Mr. Giang Thien Phu, head of the research and development group of Vincommerce, a subsidiary of Vingroup, one of the largest estate group in Vietnam, who won the award in 2007, said those involved in scientific studies are often alone and in many circumstances, they want to give up, feel frustrated, or are full of expectation.

"The Vietnam Outstanding Young Face Award helped us always see the attention, support and assistance, which encourages us to make non-stop efforts to contribute to society," Phu said.

Mr. Nguyen Van Son, director of Viettel Hanoi Branch, the winner of the Vietnam Outstanding Young Face Award 2014, could not forget the moment he received the award.

"Winning the award is a tremendous advantage for those who are working in the fields of business and corporate governance. The award is motivation for me to strive for and develop further," Son said.

Mr. Le Xuan Son, Chief Editor of Tien Phong Newspaper, Deputy Chair of the Executive Board and Director of the Vietnam Young Talent Assistance Foundation, said after being honored with the award, most of the award winners have developed well in their fields. Many people have achieved great success and shone like entrepreneurs Vo Quoc Thang, Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhan, Truong Dinh Anh; intellectuals and scientists Nguyen Anh Tuan (former editor in chief of VietNamNet online newspaper), Dr. Nguyen Ba Hai; artists Bui Cong Duy (violinist), Tung Duong and Le Cat Trong Ly (singer); athletes Nguyen Thi Anh Vien (swimming), Nguyen Thuy Hien (wushu), Dam Thanh Xuan (wushu), and Phan Thi Ha Thanh (gymnastics).

The dream

Mr. Nguyen Dac Vinh, member of the Party Central Committee, the First Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union’s Central Committee, Chair of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Young Talent Assistance Foundation, and Chair of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Outstanding Young Face Award, said the award has great influence on the younger generation of Vietnam.

"Many young people had not known by the community but after they won the award they made outstanding achievements and became very famous," said Vinh.

Vinh said, in the last 20 years, the award executive board has been working very seriously to choose the deserving faces.

"The award has not only honored and maintained the fire in the heart of young people, who made great achievements, but also lighted up the flame of dream, the flame of enthusiasm in the heart of millions of other young Vietnamese people, who were motivated and led by examples of patriotism, extraordinary studies, creativity, and unparalleled courage of those who are honored with the award," he added.

Mr. Le Xuan Son said, during the past 20 years, the award has honored 200 outstanding young people of Vietnam.

Son said that on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the award, the Vietnam Young Talent Assistance Foundation an the Organizing Committee of the Vietnam Young Talent Face Award tried to contact all of the award winners to invite them to attend the 20th anniversary on March 21st and 120 people accepted the invitation.

Who is going to be honored tonight?

According to Mr. Le Xuan Son, the 10 young faces being honored tonight are the best candidates selected by the Organizing Board of the Vietnam Oustanding Young Face Award 2015 from the list of 172 nominees, who made great achievements in the nine fields of studies, scientific research, production, trade, national defense, social security, culture and art, sports, and social welfare.

Earlier, the list of the 20 finalist nominees was made public on many newspapers and online news websites (from February 26 through March 8 2016) to collect comments. In addition, some newspapers organized online interviews between the readers and the nominees.

"After the information about the 20 finalists was announced, the award organizing board did not receive any negative comments on the nominees. Thus, the selected nominees are truly outstanding," Son said.
