Gas explosions related to cooking has been giving out a warning against quality of current LPG products in the market. Many of these incidents can be traced to illegal refilling or substandard products using pirated brands. It is thus important that consumers know what to look for in buying their LPG products.

To better understand this matter, we had a conversation with Mrs. Nguyen Ngoc Bich Hang, General Director, Elf Gaz Danang, the leading brand in “Vietnamese kitchen safety” for 20 years.

- Elf Gaz Danang has been present in the Central region from the early days when LPG market just started (re)developing. What are EGD’s milestones throughout its development?

In 1991, the Total Group brought LPG back into Vietnam market under the brand name of Elf Gaz Saigon. In 1996, Danang Gas Joint Venture Company (now known as Elf Gaz Danang Limited, or EGD) was founded to serve LPG demand in 12 provinces of Central and Highland region. Via sustainable business activities, the company has contributed to the socio-economic development of Quang Nam province. EGD has received many special awards from local authorities such as Quang Nam Department of Tax and Quang Nam People’s Committee.

- What makes Elf Gaz Danang’s products different from other LPG brands in the market?

Elf Gaz Danang supplies full-set for home-cooking products (6kg, 11kg and 12.5kg). Each set includes a hose with European standards and an auto-shutdown regulator. Our cylinder has an auto-switch which automatically manages the amount of gas released, making our product very safe and economic. Moreover, all cylinders are regularly inspected and maintained under Vietnam standards.

Elf Gaz Danang commits to meet all technical, safety and efficiency for industrial cylinders (39kg and 45kg). The system and hoses are installed with Total’s standards as well as Vietnam’s safety regulations. Elf Gaz Danang also provides regular inspection during the time of contract.

- Recent gas explosions have raised consumer concerns regarding safety when using gas for cooking. Many households have switched to electronic stoves. From the manufacturer’s point of view, what is the company’s commitment to build trust to consumers on Elf Gaz Danang’s products?


For Totalgaz/Elf Gaz Danang, safety is not just aword. Safety and quality are core values for all our products and services. Consumers still have the habit of ordering gas by color, via gas shops (Ex: bring me a red cylinder), without caring about the brand. In your opinion, is it related to safety issue?

When consumers only order by color without calling the brand, the cylinder may be switched with another inauthentic product of the same color. This product may be defective, illegally refilled and more importantly, not regularly inspected and maintained under safety standards. Therefore, to protect themselves, their family and belongings, consumers should order gas cylinder by brand rather than color. For example: when ordering, you should say “Please bring me an Elf Gaz cylinder” instead of a red cylinder, or “Please bring me a Totalgaz cylinder” instead of an orange cylinder.

- Many people perceive that the LPG market is not a competition among authentic gas brands but rather a competition against illegal re-fillers and unauthentic brands. Does Elf Gaz Danang encounter many difficulties with this issue?

Yes, like other authentic LPG brands players in the market, we do suffer from this situation. We periodically inspect and change the design of seals and update the list of distributors, retailers assist them in distinguishing a genuine Elf Gaz Danang more easily.
On the occasion of your 20th Anniversary in the Central region, do you have any special program for customers?
