In 2024, Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security prosecuted several high-ranking officials, including former ministers, provincial party secretaries, and provincial chairpersons, in its intensified anti-corruption campaign. The effort has garnered recognition from the Party, state, various sectors, and the public.
Landmark achievements in anti-corruption efforts
At a press conference on December 26, the Ministry of Public Security provided a summary of its operations in 2024 and outlined key directions for 2025.
According to the Department of Economic Police and Anti-Corruption (C03), the anti-corruption campaign achieved significant progress. Nationwide, 825 new cases involving 1,646 individuals were prosecuted for corruption crimes - a 16.4% increase compared to 2023. Authorities successfully recovered 1,334.6 billion VND and valuable assets, exceeding targets set by the National Assembly.
The crackdown included prosecutions of high-ranking officials such as former ministers, provincial party secretaries, and chairpersons.
Commitment to sustained anti-corruption measures
For 2025 and beyond, the Ministry has pledged to intensify its anti-corruption efforts, emphasizing that there will be "no exceptions" and "no safe zones."
The fight against corruption will not hinder economic development but instead aim to support it by eliminating inefficiencies and unlocking resources for growth.
In addition to corruption, the Ministry will focus on investigating and prosecuting cases involving wastefulness and mismanagement of state and public assets. These efforts aim to contribute to economic revitalization during Vietnam’s rise in the global arena.
National security and public safety achievements
The Ministry reported that national security remained firmly upheld in 2024. Proactive measures ensured the safety of over 3,200 activities involving Party and state leaders, high-profile events, and international delegations.
Efforts to combat crime have also been effective. The resolution rate for crime reports reached 91.06%, surpassing the National Assembly’s target. Law enforcement investigated and solved over 48,000 social order cases and captured more than 3,900 wanted individuals.
Major transnational crime networks, including those involved in drug trafficking, human smuggling, online fraud, corruption, and smuggling, were dismantled. Authorities handled over 29,900 drug-related cases with 51,300 offenders and over 4,600 economic crimes involving 8,000 individuals.
Vision for 2025 and beyond
The Central Public Security Party Committee and the Ministry of Public Security have set the 2025 slogan for the People’s Public Security Force: “Be exemplary in implementing the Party's policies; build a truly clean, strong, regular, elite, and modern People’s Police.”
The Ministry outlined three key breakthroughs:
Ensuring absolute security for the Party’s congresses at all levels, culminating in the 14th National Party Congress.
Leading efforts to streamline organizational structures, drive innovation, and accelerate national digital transformation while combating waste and environmental pollution.
Mobilizing resources to modernize infrastructure for the People’s Police Force by 2030, prioritizing six key units for modernization.
