The shrapnel bombs, which belonged to the US army, were found in the garden of a resident in Tan Thanh Commune.

The resident said sometimes she found arsenal buried in her garden, after the rain washed away the mud.

The shrapnel bomb is a very dangerous explosive ordnance, hence could not be removed and was destroyed at the spot.

The explosive ordnance disposal team continued to check the garden and nearby areas for bombs.

Quang Tri Province was the hardest-hit province in the war.

Nearly 400,000ha of the 461,000ha province still contain bombs and mines.

Every year, some 2,300-2,500ha of land is cleared.
