On the afternoon of August 10, the Ho Chi Minh City Command provided its latest update on the search and recovery of fallen soldiers' remains at Le Thi Rieng Park in Hoa Hung Ward.

According to the remains recovery team, personnel continued expanding the search area at the second burial trench in Zone B, excavating more than 300 cubic meters of soil to examine locations believed to contain remains.

The area consists of an earth mound created during the park's renovation, meaning a substantial volume of soil must be processed. To accelerate the search, authorities deployed three excavators and a dump truck to transport soil, while maintaining continuous search operations.

The team subsequently discovered and recovered 11 sets of remains of fallen soldiers, along with seven sets of artifacts.

Since June 23, search teams have discovered and recovered 256 sets of fallen soldiers' remains and 151 sets of artifacts at Le Thi Rieng Park. Of the remains, 228 were found individually, while the other 28 were recovered from seven locations associated with mass graves in zones A and B.

The Ho Chi Minh City Command said it would continue directing personnel to expand the search area and coordinate with specialized agencies, witnesses and relevant units in the search and recovery of fallen soldiers' remains.

Key milestones in the search for fallen soldiers' remains at Le Thi Rieng Park

May 28: The Ho Chi Minh City Command issued a notice seeking "witnesses" who appeared in a photograph taken when soldiers sacrificed on February 12, 1968, were buried.

June 8: National Steering Committee 515 held a workshop to verify and assess information concerning a mass grave of fallen soldiers at the former Chi Hoa - Cho Quan cemetery, now the site of Le Thi Rieng Park.

June 23: Authorities conducted exploratory excavations and discovered multiple sets of fallen soldiers' remains in an area behind the memorial dedicated to the heroes and fallen soldiers of the 1968 Tet General Offensive and Uprising.

July 6: Search and recovery operations for fallen soldiers' remains were launched at Le Thi Rieng Park.

To date: A total of 256 sets of fallen soldiers' remains and 151 sets of artifacts have been found.
