VietNamNet Bridge – After three weeks, a house weighing 2,600 tons in Dak Lak Province in Vietnam’s central highlands has been moved 70m away from its original position as planned by the Vietnam Company for Drooping, Sloping and Falling (Vina DSF Co., Ltd).

The company’s director Do Quoc Khanh said after the relocation, workers are completing the final tasks, including disassembling devices, leveling the surface and building foundations.

"In about a week the final stages will be completed. During the relocation process, engineers and workers accurately followed the technical plan so the house was successfully moved, without any problem like cracks. The building remains intact as it was before the relocation," said Khanh.

On February, 30 workers began moving the house, using nearly 300 tons of equipment transported from the north.

Khanh said each day the house was moved about 10m. At the new location, the building was turned 90 degrees horizontally, 70 m away from the original location.

This is the largest building the company has moved in the central highlands and southern provinces. This is a 2-storey house of 58 m long, 26 m wide with a total floor area of 1,800 m2, which was built in 1993.

Vina DSF Director Do Quoc Khanh is called a genie for being the first man in Vietnam who could move houses.

The engineer, who helped establish the Vietnamese structural moving industry, said rudimentary tools and methods worked fine for moving structures that weighed several hundred or fewer than 2,000 tonnes. For moving buildings weighing thousands of tonnes, rudimentary methods are useless, and inexperienced structural movers may not recognize this.

Khanh received an award in 2008 from the International Association of Structural Movers (IASM), based in the United States, for successfully moving the 3,000-tonne Phu Cat building of the Informatics Telecommunication Hi-Tech Manufacturing Science Union in that year in the then northern province of Ha Tay, now part of Ha Noi.

But Khanh is not the only "genie" in the country. There are several structural movers in business across the country, including Nguyen Cam Luy, Luong Van Phu, Le Van Sang and Nguyen Van Cu.
