In the past month, 42 quintuple number license plates have been auctioned in Vietnam, fetching nearly 200 billion VND ($8.2 million). Among them, plate number 30L-999.99 was sold for a record-breaking 12.105 billion VND ($497,000).
Quintuple numbers: A symbol of luck and prestige
In East Asian culture, license plates with quintuple numbers symbolize luck, prosperity, and power, making them highly desirable. As the Lunar New Year approaches, demand for these plates has surged as buyers seek to adorn their vehicles with symbolic numbers.
From November 20 to December 20, 2024, 42 quintuple number license plates were successfully auctioned nationwide, accumulating a total of 196.42 billion VND.
Of these, 16 plates from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City contributed a combined 117.855 billion VND to the total.
The cheapest plate in this period was 94A-111.11 from Bac Lieu, sold for 460 million VND ($19,000).
The most expensive plate, 30K-888.88 from Hanoi, was auctioned for 13.945 billion VND ($573,000).
Notably, 30L-999.99 fetched 12.105 billion VND ($497,000), cementing its status as a prized asset.
The quintuple 9 sequence, representing eternal success and power, attracted strong interest. In this one-month span, five plates with the number 999.99 collectively sold for 54 billion VND ($2.2 million), including:
30K-999.99 (Hanoi): 13.54 billion VND ($556,000)
51L-999.99 (Ho Chi Minh City): 9.48 billion VND ($389,000)
