This project was licensed in 1997, with a total capital of USD50 million, invested in the US Keystone Invest Group.

Located in Cau Giay District, the hospital covers 27,000 m2. It was designed to have 300 beds and was supposed to have specialised in the treatment of serious diseases such as cancer, brain, and cardiovascular problems.

Because of the slow land clearance, the project only started its construction in 2006 and finished initial construction of buildings in 2011.

In 2011, Hanoi American International Hospital said on its website that the hospital would officially open in November that year and boasted that it would welcome the US President Barack Obama on its opening day. However, since then it has been left idle and nobody knows when the project is going to be continued.

The project’s slow pace is said to be due to some problems related to the lack of fund and the investor still has to wait for the Vietnamese Ministry of Defense’s permission on building a helipad on the roof. The change of the construction plan has also been blamed on slow construction by the contractors.

People who near live the project said that it has been abandoned for many years and they have not seen construction workers there for years.
