A total of 152 traffic accidents occurred nationwide, killing 89 people and injuring 111 others during the 2023 Tet Lunar New Year holiday from January 20-26, reported the Traffic Police Department.

Compared to the same period last year, the number of accidents and fatalities went down by 12 and three cases, respectively. Meanwhile, the number of injured increased by eight percent.

Among them, 147 road accidents left 85 dead and 109 injured while four railway accidents killed four and injured another.

Police in localities also dealt with nearly 22,000 violation cases with fines up to over VND 50.40 billion, detained 639 automobiles and 9,910 motorbikes, and revoked nearly 5,000 driving licenses.

Over 7,700 drivers were found to exceed the legal limit for "drunk driving", or 35 percent of the total violations during the period. This figure showed an increase of 6,600 cases compared to the last Tet holiday.
