The Vietnam Mobile Game Industry Overview Report 2025, recently published by GameGeek, shows that with nearly 95 percent of downloads from overseas, the Vietnamese mobile game industry is contributing significantly to the global digital content supply chain.
The report points out a large gap between production and domestic consumption. Out of a total of 4.9 billion downloads of mobile game products originating from Vietnam, the domestic market only accounts for a mere 5.5 percent.
This means that nearly 95 percent of the production and distribution value of Vietnamese studios is directed toward international users. This index proves that Vietnamese game enterprises built global competitive capacity early and are no longer limited by the scale of the domestic market.
Instead of focusing on saturated markets, Vietnamese publishers have optimized their strategies in regions with rapid smartphone user growth.
India is the largest market, accounting for 13.93 percent of total downloads, thanks to the strong alignment between Vietnamese products and local user preferences. Brazil (7.32 percent) and Indonesia (6.76 percent) are the next key markets, playing an important role in maintaining large-scale download volumes for domestic studios.
Focusing on emerging markets (Tier 3 and Tier 4) shows strategic awareness in targeting customer segments where Vietnam’s highly entertaining game genres can easily achieve scale.
Data shows the dominance of the Android platform with an 84 percent share of downloads. This is the result of focusing on developing games with high compatibility across many types of mobile devices, in which Simulation, Puzzle, and Arcade genres account for about 66 percent of total downloads.
These genres have low language barriers, making it easy to reach global users without excessive localization costs. This is the "weapon" that helps Vietnamese games quickly achieve huge download volumes upon international launch.
Although download volume remains a key strength, the Vietnamese gaming industry is making an important shift in quality. Currently, up to 73 percent of studios have applied the Hybrid revenue model (in-app purchases and advertising) instead of relying entirely on advertising as before.
This change helps businesses optimize Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) and extend product lifecycles. Combined with a publisher growth rate of 27.39 percent (ranked 6th in the world), Vietnam is consolidating its foundation to become a professional mobile game production and export center.
With distinct export characteristics, the gaming industry is not just an entertainment sector but a true spearhead of Vietnam's digital economy in the international market.
The Vietnam Game Industry Overview Report 2025 - "Vietnamese Games Reaching Out: From Domestic Market to Global Position" is a valuable report conducted by GameGeek - Gaming Central Hub, under the sponsorship of the Authority of Broadcasting and Electronic Information (Ministry of Information and Communications) with professional coordination from leading data partners such as Sensor Tower and AppsFlyer.
Vietnam's mobile games rank 2nd in downloads, after only China
According to the newly released report, the Vietnamese mobile game industry saw a new record with 4.9 billion downloads, ranking second globally, following China with 5.3 billion downloads. With a distribution speed of 9,300 downloads per minute, domestic products are proving an immense capacity to reach users on an international scale.
This confirms that mobile games are among Vietnam’s most successful digital export products today. With deep penetration into major markets, each game product not only generates economic value but also showcases the intellectual strength of Vietnamese developers reaching billions of mobile devices worldwide.
Despite technical barriers and tightening policies from international platforms, an ecosystem of 210 active studios (with the actual number potentially much higher) released 27,388 new games (up 13 percent compared to 2024).
Ranking 33rd globally in output, Vietnam is proving itself as a global mobile game production hub with strong potential to become a clearly export-oriented market in the future.
According to Sensor Tower, Vietnam ranks sixth globally in publisher growth rate at 27 percent.
This figure not only places Vietnam among the fastest-growing game markets but also highlights its ability to thrive even as the global industry trends toward contraction.
Vietnam accounts for 2.3 percent of total global publishers, standing alongside major markets such as the US (3.6 percent), India (2.9 percent), and the UK (2.7 percent).
