Light Garden offers visitors a unique experiential space.

From April 10 to 19, at the National Special Relic Site Temple of Literature (Hanoi), the Light Garden program offers the public a unique experiential space that blends light art with the essence of traditional craftsmanship.

The program is open free of charge from 8am to 9pm daily throughout the event.

The exhibition is designed as a vibrant lantern art space, featuring contributions from notable craft villages such as Cao Vien lantern village (Thanh Oai, Hanoi), Phu Vinh bamboo and rattan weaving village (Phu Nghia, Hanoi), and Kim Son sedge craft village (Ninh Binh).

It also welcomes artisans and production houses from across the country, including lantern and ceremonial canopy artisan Hoang Ngoc Tuyen (Hue), Bao La bamboo weaving village (Hue), Hai Duong lantern and conical hat workshop (Hue), Dé Lantana lanterns (Hoi An, Da Nang), and Trong Binh Co Dang lanterns (Ho Chi Minh City).

A visitor explores the creative exhibition space.

This diverse convergence creates a rich tapestry of techniques and regional identities, helping to revive the vitality of Vietnam’s traditional crafts within a contemporary creative flow. Beyond a static display, the program opens up a dynamic space for creative engagement, harmoniously connecting tradition with modern sensibilities, while honoring the spirit of learning and spreading cultural heritage values to the public.

The lantern works are carefully made from familiar materials such as bamboo strips, silk and dó paper, combined with contemporary installation art and lighting technology. Together, they form an aesthetically rich artistic space that also carries deep cultural meaning.

According to Le Xuan Kieu, Director of the Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities at the Temple of Literature, each lantern is not only a refined handcrafted object but also a symbolic creation. Light is conveyed as a metaphor for knowledge, scholarship and the human values nurtured across generations.

Through the language of light, the program delivers a message about the role of knowledge in life - a guiding illumination for learning, a source of faith that leads the soul, awakens intellect and nurtures character. It also serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving and promoting these enduring values in modern society.
