HCMC residents on December 28 enjoyed a Guinness-record dance of up to 108 kylins at the second Kylin-Dragon Dance Festival at Van Lang Park in HCMC’s District 5.

The 108-kylin dance performance took the shape of Vietnam’s flag, making onlookers euphoric and creating an unforgettable feeling.

The well-prepared performance was aimed at introducing the prominence of lion-dragon-unicorn dance art in the city, as well as throughout the country. It also contributed to maintaining and developing Vietnam’s traditional special cultural values, apart from encouraging District 5 in the city to develop new tourism products to lend support to the municipal tourism sector.

Twenty-five professional troupes from Districts 2, 5 and 8 in the city and neighboring provinces, including Dong Nai, Long An and Vung Tau, took part in the festival this year, which is expected to conclude on December 30, while scheduling more than 30 performances.

The participating troupes will also showcase a booth of kylin heads and other items used in kylin and dragon dances, and three booths displaying martial arts medicines used in the treatment of common diseases.

The second Kylin-Dragon Dance Festival in HCMC is scheduled to market and introduce kylin dance art, a tourism attraction for District 5, and the entire city. Further, the event gave artists and troupe members an opportunity to meet and exchange experiences, and helped strengthen relations among troupes.

In addition, the festival was held to honor the kylin-dragon dance art and attract large numbers of domestic and foreign visitors to the city.

The event this year will also feature many activities to provide travelers with information and knowledge about such traditional art.

Also, some exchange activities will be launched at the festival so that visitors can meet with artists and kylin head makers.
