A Vietnamese telecoms provider said on April 4 that the Asia-America Gateway (AAG) undersea cable linking Southeast Asia with the US has suffered a breakdown.
Whenever problems occur with submarine optical cables, especially the Asia-America Gateway AAG, international internet connections are affected for several days.
The Asia America Gateway (AAG) undersea cable that suffered a breakdown, cutting off all international connections through the AAG-SH1 branch of the line since June 16, is set to fixed by July 13.
Though the APG submarine cable broke twice in six months, Vietnam Internet Association’s (VIA) secretary general Vu The Binh said that APG has helped improve security and provisioning capability for Vietnam’s internet.
Vietnam’s internet in recent days has been mostly relying on the mainland cable system across the northern border with China, which is a part of the APG system (the Vietnam-Hong Kong section), and partially on SMW3.
