The Boeing 727-200 left at Noi Bai International Airport for 10 year

Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue has just instructed to auction the Boeing 727-200 which has been left at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi by Cambodia’s Royal Khmer Airlines since May 2007 following a technical malfunction.

The Ministry of Transport has been assigned to organise the auction and the money from the auction will go to the state budget.

Speaking to DTiNews, a representative from the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV) said that after the aeroplane operating on the Siem Reap-Hanoi route faced technical problems, the CAAV contacted the Cambodian airline several times to ask for them to take the aeroplane back, but never received any reply.

The parking fees for the aeroplane has mounted to USD600,000. Technical checks by the CAAV showed that the aeroplane has seriously been damaged.

Until November 2014, the Cambodian State Secretariat of Civil Aviation informed the CAAV that Cambodian authorities have revoked the licence for operating the abandoned aeroplane previously granted to Royal Khmer Airlines. The ill-fated Boeing B727-200 in fact had its aircraft registration removed in October 2008 by Cambodian authorities.

Royal Khmer Airlines ceased operations in 2007.

The Cambodian State Secretariat of Civil Aviation said Vietnam can deal with the abandoned aeroplane.
