Affiliate marketing is getting more popular

Tuan Ha, CEO of Vinalink, said he had searched for information about revenue of the Vietnamese digital marketing market two years ago and estimated that the market was worth $300 million, of which 70 percent was created by Facebook and Google.

In 2017, the market value was estimated at $1 billion.

Do Huu Hung, CEO of Interspace Vietnam, said that online marketing in the past meant placing banners on websites. Readers click keywords or links to learn more about products and services. Businesses have to pay for every mouse click, no matter if the products and services are sold.

With affiliate marketing, shopkeepers hire platform providers to bring customers to them. Only when customers buy products will the shopkeepers have to pay the marketing fee. In Vietnam, many businesses have used affiliate marketing solutions, such as A Day Roi, Tiki, FPT Shop, Nguyen Kim, Sendo and Topica.

Also, according to Hung, 70 percent of customers in the world buy products after receiving advice from friends. In such conditions, affiliate marketing is very useful.

Affiliate marketing is based on the internet, under which one website advertises products and services for many other websites and receives commissions.

As social networks have become more popular, marketing through celebrities and influencers has become more common.

A Nielsen report showed that 92 percent of consumers believe in friends’ advice about products, rather than ads from manufacturers. This explains why influencers can guide the shopping behaviors of fans and followers.

Nguyen Thanh Hung, chair of the Vietnam E-commerce Association (Vecom), said affiliate marketing turned up in Vietnam three years. Vecom realized that this would be a great opportunity for Vietnamese businesses to take initiative in the field of online marketing.

“Most of the revenue from online marketing has been going to Google and Facebook’s pockets. Affiliate marketing solutions are the only way to take the money back,” Hung said.

Many Vietnamese startups have joined the online marketing solution market. Eway is one of them. Eway is also targeting other regional markets such as Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand.

Eway has launched AdStiq with automatic advertisements. It also owns the ad platform AdFlex and has five online marketing solutions, namely DyTa, Cost per Order, Cost per Sale, Cost per Lead and Wi-Fi Marketing.

These are marketing and product distribution platforms based on Big Data technology.
