Vung Tau authorities held an urgent meeting on March 22 on the recent drowning cases at Bai Sau Beach, with two deaths and two people in critical conditions. Last year rescue workers also saved over 550 people who entered the whirlpools at this beach.

The Management Board of Vung Tau resorts admitted that there are many whirlpools along the coast of Vung Tau. Some are up to dozens of meter depth. People who cannot swim will sink very quickly while those who can swim can lose their strength fast if they lose self-control.

Vung Tau City has installed hundreds of boards warning tourists of the danger and advising them to not swim in the evening.

Rescue workers are only present on the beach from 6m to 6pm.

Truong Thi Huong, Deputy Chair of Vung Tau, said the city will arrange rescue workers at the beach 24/7.

In the past two weeks, two drowning cases occurred at Bai Sau, with two deaths, including a Swedish tourist and two others in critical condition.

According to statistics from Vung Tau City, from 2014 to early 2016, 23 tourists drowned in Vung Tau.
