VietNamNet Bridge – The Asia-American Gateway (AAG) submarine cable has resumed full operation after six days of maintenance, with Internet connectivity from Vietnam to international routes back to normal.
The maintenance of the AAG route finished as scheduled on June 27.
During the days of maintenance, domestic networks diverted international access to standby fiber optic lines. However, the access to international services like Google and Facebook was still slow.
Many users coped with this situation by using a VPN or setting up virtual servers to redirect traffic abroad, avoiding the segment under maintenance.
This is the second time for maintenance of the AAG cable this year. The first took place from March 4 to 6.
In Vietnam, AAG is the main cable used by local Internet service providers to connect the country with other nations.
The AAG is a 20,000-kilometre long submarine communications cable system, connecting Southeast Asia with the US mainland, across the Pacific Ocean via Guam and Hawaii.
With a total investment of approximately $560 million, AAG has a length of nearly 20,000 km, starting from Malaysia (TM) and ending in the US (AT & T Telecom Company).
The segment to Vietnam is 314 km long and lands at Vung Tau. There are four participants in the system, including FPT Telecom, VNPT, Viettel and SPT.
