In line with technological development trends, many universities will introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI) programs and begin enrollment in 2026.

According to the 2026 regular university admissions plan, Foreign Trade University will open 10 new majors aligned with development trends, including key groups related to the digital economy, technology, data, and artificial intelligence.

Pham Thanh Ha, Acting Deputy Head of the Training Management Department at Foreign Trade University, told VietNamNet that these programs clearly reflect the university’s orientation toward preparing human resources for the digital economy and business model transformation. They include Artificial Intelligence (Artificial Intelligence for Innovation in Economics and Business), Data Science (Data Science for Innovation in Economics and Business), and Digital Economy (Digital Economy and Data Analytics).

Hanoi National University of Education announced that in 2026 it will enroll students in 58 undergraduate majors and programs across nine fields, including eight new non-teaching programs: Educational Studies (Education and Communication), Sports Coaching, Geography (Natural Resources and Environmental Geography), Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Chemistry (Pharmaceutical Chemistry), International Studies, and French Language (Applied French and International Communication). As such, the pedagogical university will also introduce majors in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.

In 2026, Commerce University will launch six new training programs, including one standard program, three internationally oriented professional programs (IPOP), and two international dual-degree programs. The newly introduced standard program is Computer Science (Application of Artificial Intelligence in Business). The university said the program aims to train graduates with a solid business foundation combined with the ability to apply AI in areas such as data analysis and decision-making, digital marketing, finance and investment, operations management, supply chains, product development, and technology startups.

Nguyen Quang Trung, Deputy Head of Communications and Admissions at Commerce University, said the institution is also strengthening the application of AI to enhance students’ digital competencies in the digital era. Training programs will be designed to integrate foundational knowledge, professional skills, digital capacity, and practical experience, while expanding cooperation with enterprises, international working environments, and Industry 4.0 labor market trends.

In 2026, Hanoi University of Industry plans to enroll 8,300 students across 71 undergraduate majors and programs, including four new programs: Artificial Intelligence, Semiconductor Microchips, Biotechnology, and Materials Technology.

This year, the University of Transport and Communications will also introduce an Artificial Intelligence major. In 2026, the university will admit students through four methods for 6,660 seats in standard and high-quality programs, along with 70 seats for international joint training programs. Compared to 2025, the university has increased its quota by 340 seats, including 160 additional seats at the main campus in Hanoi and 180 at its branch campus.

Recently, the Ministry of Education and Training announced new university admissions regulations for 2026 with several adjustments aimed at controlling and improving input quality. One notable change is that candidates may register a maximum of 15 preferences across different programs and institutions and must rank them in order of priority, with Preference 1 being the highest priority, instead of the previous unlimited system. Teacher training programs will only consider preferences ranked from 1 to 5.

According to the Ministry, recent enrollment data show that 35.1 percent of admitted candidates were accepted through their first preference, while 98.5 percent were admitted within their top 10 preferences. Candidates admitted in supplementary rounds accounted for just over 1 percent. The new regulation is expected to help reduce costs and shorten the admissions process, while requiring students to more seriously research training programs and choose fields that match their abilities and strengths.

For teacher training programs funded by the state budget, the Ministry’s representative said candidates need to clearly define their career goals by placing these programs within their top five preferences. This adjustment is also expected to reduce pressure on pedagogical universities in accurately determining enrollment numbers and graduate job placements.
