The Ministry of Education and Training has issued an artificial intelligence (AI) education framework for school students, along with guidelines for its implementation starting in the 2026-2027 academic year.
Accordingly, from the 2026-2027 academic year, AI education will officially be rolled out across general education institutions nationwide.

Schools can choose implementation models suited to their circumstances

The AI education framework is structured into two components: core content and extended content.

The core component comprises 12 class periods per grade each academic year. Based on the core content set out in the AI education framework, schools will develop education plans and implement the curriculum in ways appropriate to each grade level, students’ characteristics and their own practical conditions. The core content is intended to equip students with the minimum essential knowledge and skills in AI that they can apply directly to support their learning across subjects and participation in educational activities under the national general education curriculum.

For the extended component, schools may determine the amount of time allocated in their education plans. Based on students’ needs and actual conditions, schools can select and organize appropriate content to broaden students’ knowledge and develop their skills and creative capabilities.

Based on the AI education framework, the availability of teachers and facilities, as well as students’ needs and abilities, schools may choose from three approaches: dedicated AI education modules; integration into subjects and educational activities; and educational activities organized according to students’ needs.

Dedicated AI education modules are intended to ensure completion of the core content. Integration into subjects and educational activities is designed to reinforce and apply the core content and may also cover appropriate parts of the extended content. Needs-based educational activities, including clubs, thematic sessions, field trips, practical exchanges and extracurricular activities, will apply to the extended content on a voluntary and elective basis, helping students who want to explore AI at a more advanced level develop their abilities, strengths and talents.

Ensuring safe, ethical and responsible use of AI

Schools are responsible for selecting and reviewing AI tools to ensure they are appropriate for students’ ages, educational objectives and terms of use. They must also provide guidance and supervision on AI use; comply with legal regulations on personal data protection, intellectual property and information security; and establish procedures for receiving, handling and reporting related incidents.

Any mobilization of resources from society must be conducted on a voluntary, open and transparent basis and must not place financial pressure on students or their parents. Such activities must also comply with regulations on safety, personal data protection and other applicable laws.

Regarding implementation, provincial Departments of Education and Training will take local conditions into account when directing schools to review their readiness, develop plans and introduce AI education from the 2026-2027 academic year.

The provincial education departments will also advise provincial-level People’s Committees on ensuring the conditions needed for two-session-per-day schooling, with priority given to staffing, funding, facilities, equipment, learning materials, maintenance and technical support for the implementation of AI education, particularly at schools in mountainous, remote and isolated areas and regions facing especially difficult conditions.
