Vietnamese airlines began selling air tickets for 2025 Tet early, in mid-September, but airfares were relatively high, especially for flights from HCM City to Hanoi and to localities in the central region.
On November 22, Vietjet Air and Vietravel Airlines return tickets (including tax, fees) for flights from HCM City to Hanoi departing on January 24, 2025 and from Hanoi to HCM City on February 2, 2025 (the fifth day of the new lunar calendar) was sold at VND7.44 million.
Meanwhile, Bamboo Airways and Vietnam Airlines tickets were a bit higher – VND7.58 million.
As such, the airfares of the flights during 2025 Tet days are twice as many as ordinary days, and VND800,000-1.4 million higher than 2024 Tet days.
The air tickets of flights from HCM City to other localities are also expensive, VND6-7 million for a return ticket. HCM City – Thanh Hoa/Nghe An route is VND7.4 million, while HCM City to Da Nang is VND5 million.
Vietjet Air tickets for some air routes have run out. Vietjet Air’s ticket sale system showed there are no more tickets for HCM City – Dong Hoi flights with departure January 22-26, and for HCM City – Quy Nhon tickets with departure on January 24-26.
There are few flights on these routes, therefore, it is understandable why Tet tickets on the routes have run out quickly.
Vietnam Airlines’ tickets are also expensive. To fly HCM City – Dong Hoi and vice versa, and HCM City – Quy Nhon, passengers have to pay VND10 million per return ticket (with transit).
Mai Thu Hong from Binh Thanh district in HCM City said her 4-member family has to pay VND25 million on tickets to Hanoi to celebrate Tet.
“My parents live in Ha Dong district in Hanoi and we have to fly to Hanoi at least once a year. The expenses for air tickets alone cost nearly all our monthly income,” Hong said.
To satisfy the increased travel demand during 2025 Tet days, Vietnam Airlines Group has promised to supply 650,000 seats more, or over 3,000 flights on domestic routes, with departure on January 13-February 12, 2025.
The total number of seats throughout the carrier’s domestic air routes will be 2.15 million, or 11,000 flights.
Airlines have reported that many flights during Tet days have the occupancy rate of 70-80 percent, especially flights from HCM City to northern cities/provinces and central region.
Vietnam Airlines plans to lease four Airbus A320/321 aircraft, including two wet lease, and each aircraft is expected to provide 180 flights this Tet.
