Reports say around 10am, the woman, 31-year-old Megan Hellebuyck from Michigan in the US, jumped from a road bridge in Vo Nguyen Giap Street near the Noi Bai International Airport.

Local residents found her naked body on the road below and rushed her to hospital where she was pronounced dead this afternoon, according to a report by VTC.

Police said her clothes and American passport were found near the spot where she jumped.

Three days ago, she posted a message on Facebook quoting the lyrics to a Beyonce song which included the line ‘trying to fix something you can’t see’.

A family member replied to her comment checking on her wellbeing, but later posts confirmed the apparent suicide with some Facebook users offering their condolences.

According to her Facebook page Megan had visited Bali before arriving in Viet Nam. It is not clear when she arrived.

An earlier post on a community group in Hanoi had expressed concern for a woman fitting Megan’s description who had been acting strangely around Kim Ma.

The person who wrote the post said she tried in vain to help, but the woman wouldn’t accompany her to the American Embassy. — VNS
