Five years ago, with initial consultation from the US Agency for International Development (USAID) Vietnam, Sao Mai Group kicked off the VND6 trillion An Hao Solar Power Plant project on an area of 275 hectares. The power plant is located in An Hao commune of Tinh Bien district, An Giang province with a yearly capacity of more than 302 million KWh. The plant was completed before December 31, 2020 after ninr months of urgent construction to enjoy Electricity of Vietnam (EVN)’s electricity purchase price in phase 1 of 9.35 cents and 7.06 cents/kwh for phase 2.
A working group of USAID Vietnam recently paid a visit to the An Hao Solar Power Plant. They praised the plant’s effectiveness and contribution to Vietnam’s energy industry. In particular, with its unique location and design, An Hao Solar Power Plant is considered the most beautiful solar power plant in Vietnam. This place has become a popular destination for domestic and foreign tourists who want to discover the majesty and colors of life in Vietnam’s southwestern region.
Previously, Sao Mai Group invested nearly US$2 million to install the roof power system at its subsidiary - IDI Company, with a capacity of 1.06 Mwp. The system was inaugurated in May 2017 and it was the first rooftop solar power plant with the largest capacity in Vietnam at that time. Sao Mai Group then invested VND1,200 billion to acquire the Europlast Long An Solar Power Plant, with a capacity of 50Mwp.
During the recent visit to An Hao Solar Power Plant, the delegation of USAID Vietnam discussed with Sao Mai Group's Board of Directors cooperation programs in the field of renewable energy. USAID Vietnam proposed Sao Mai Group to participate in USAID's renewable energy support program through the V-LEEP II project.
On this occasion, Sao Mai Group asked for USAID Vietnam’s assistance for the group's clean energy exploitation and investment strategy. In addition, with its function and position, the group wants USAID to provide consulting support for Sao Mai Group’s clean energy projects so the group can participate in competitive power generation auctions according to the Government's policy in the implementation of the Power Master Plan VIII.

On this occasion, the USAID Vietnam delegation also visited the Tra Su Melaleuca Forest Nature Reserve managed by the An Giang Tourism Joint Stock Company. This is the largest flooded Melaleuca forest in Vietnam, which is home to over 150 extremely rare and precious animals and plants, as well as the longest bamboo bridge in the forest and largest bird sanctuary in Vietnam.
