The event wrapped up in Hungary on July 30.

Vien ranked 10th out of 27 swimmers in the qualification with a time of 4:40.39 and could not reach the final.

She faced the world’s top players such as five-time world champion Katinka Hosszu of Hungary, former world champion Belmonte Mireia of Spain and Olympic 2012 silver medallist Beisel Elizabeth of the United Sates.

At the Rio Olympics 2016, Vien clocked a time of 4:36.85.

Earlier, Vien, who won gold medal at the Asian Swimming Championships in Japan last year, only ranked 18th out of 36 participants in the 200m medley in the qualifying round with a time of 2:13.36.

On the same day, Nguyen Huu Kim Son finished 30th out of 37 swimmers in the men’s 400 medley.

Sơn set a new national record in the men’s 1,500m freestyle event with a time of 15 minutes and 29.90 seconds. Son did not win a medal but his result was better than the record of the biennial Southeast Asian Games, which will kick off next month in Malaysia.
