The Cau Ngu Festival, a festival where fisherman come to pray for a good harvest of fish, opened in Thanh Khe district, Danang city on February 20, the 16th day of the first lunar month.
The annual event takes place on the 16th day of the first lunar month with many attending hoping for a bumper haul of fish and safe voyages in the new year. Traditional folk games are also held throughout the festival, creating a positive and bustling atmosphere for visitors. The festival begins with the Nghinh Ong ritual which is an event for fishermen to pay their respects and gratitude as well as hoping for a bumper catch on future voyages. The ritual has been preserved and passed down through generations of local people and fishermen. The festival plays an important part in the spiritual life for people who work at sea. A palanquin procession is held during the ritual. Worshippers attend the festival to pray for bumper hauls of fish, safe voyages, and peace for the nation. Local authorities in attendance offer incense at the festival. |
