The APEC 2017 Women and Economy Forum will take place from September 26 to 29 in Hue City of the central province of Thua Thien-Hue, deputy Minister of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs, Dao Hong Lan, told a press conference in Hanoi yesterday.

The APEC 2017 Women and Economy Forum will take place from September 26 to 29 in Hue City of the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.



The forum entitled ‘Enhancement of Integration and Economic Power of Women in a Changing World’ aims to connect the efforts of APEC and help implement recommendations of APEC leaders in 2016 on economic, financial and social integration, and women’s empowerment.

The forum would also help carry out the APEC 2017 priorities for sustainable and creative economic growth to promote APEC’s responsibilities on global issues, Loan said.

The forum would include three major events, namely the second conference of policies on women and the economy on September 26 and 27, a public-private dialogue on women and the economy on September 28 and a high-ranking dialogue on women and economic policies on September 29.

Sideline conferences and seminars will also be held during the forum.

Some 500 representatives from public and private sectors, businesses and economic groups of the 21 APEC countries are expected to attend the forum and sideline events.

The forum will be a venue for the APEC leaders to listen to the private economic sector to help overcome shortcomings and improve women’s economic power, and promote public-private partnership relations.

Additionally, the forum is set to strengthen connections among APEC businesswomen and help women take more of a role in value and supply chains in the region.

The Ministerial Declaration on Women and Economy is expected to be adopted in the forum.

The declaration will present policy recommendations for the APEC countries with three major contents of gender equality enhancement for sustainable, creative and overwhelming economic growth; improvement of competitiveness of women-owned micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises; and narrowing gender gaps in human resource development.
