At WWDC 2026, Apple officially introduced iOS 27, macOS 27 and the broader software ecosystem, featuring a major overhaul of Apple Intelligence, a completely redesigned AI-powered Siri and a suite of enhanced digital management tools for parents.
A major leap forward for Apple Intelligence and Siri AI
The next generation of Apple Intelligence is built on a privacy-first architecture. The platform powers Siri AI, Apple's completely redesigned virtual assistant, which is deeply integrated across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple Vision Pro.
With a deeper understanding of personal context, Siri AI can perform complex cross-app actions throughout the system. The assistant is capable of automatically analyzing information from messages, emails and photos, while also supporting on-screen content recognition and internet connectivity for access to up-to-date global knowledge. In addition, conversation history can be synchronized across devices through iCloud while maintaining privacy protections.
Alongside Siri AI, Apple's application ecosystem is receiving a broad range of artificial intelligence enhancements.
The Photos app now includes Spatial Reframing, a feature designed to automatically optimize image composition and improve framing after a photo has been taken.
Image Playground enables users to generate highly realistic, high-quality digital images from text descriptions.
Safari, Messages and Mail gain new automation capabilities and intelligent suggestions based on conversation content, including the ability to quickly create notes and reminders.
Stronger parental controls and screen-time management
Apple introduced a new set of intuitive tools designed to help parents create a safer digital environment for children. When a child account is created, age-appropriate protection filters are automatically enabled.
Parents can precisely determine which applications their children are allowed to access. A new scheduling feature enables app access restrictions during specific periods of the day, such as school hours between 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
The system now requires parental approval before children can connect with new contacts. Additional safeguards are automatically activated if violent or sexually explicit content is detected in shared communications.
The new Time Allowances feature enables parents to set total daily device usage limits across three major categories: Entertainment, Gaming and Social Media. Recommended limits are based on guidance from clinical and child development experts.
Apple has redesigned the Screen Time experience with a more intuitive interface that includes visual summaries of average usage and the applications children use most frequently.
Apple's 2026 software updates, including iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27 and tvOS 27, focus on enhancing both system responsiveness and visual experiences.
Application launch speeds on iPhone and iPad have increased by up to 30%. Photos load up to 70% faster after capture, while AirDrop transfer speeds have improved by 80%.
File browsing and transfers between external storage devices and iPad are now up to five times faster, reaching speeds comparable to Finder on Mac. Switching between Wi-Fi and cellular networks has also become more seamless.
Spotlight, Photos and Mail feature redesigned search interfaces aimed at improving accuracy. Mail additionally introduces a ranking system that prioritizes the most relevant results.
A new Liquid Glass slider within Settings allows users to adjust interface transparency and color intensity throughout the operating system. App icons have also been refined for improved visual clarity.
On macOS 27, Apple is bringing back several classic design elements, including unified toolbars, edge-to-edge sidebars and colored sidebar icons.
Apple said developer beta versions of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27 and visionOS 27 are available starting today. Public beta releases are scheduled for July, while the official versions will launch this fall.
