Da Nang’s Chairman Huynh Duc Tho

At the second session of the Da Nang People’s Council on August 10, a deputy asked the Da Nang authorities about information that Apple has chosen Da Nang as the site to build its $1 billion data center.

Chairman Huynh Duc Tho immediately refuted the information. He said: "Today I would like to officially tell the media and deputies that the information is incorrect. There is no information about Apple’s plan to invest in Da Nang."

This was the official statement of Da Nang’s leader after some local newspapers reported that Apple was very interested in investing in a data center to serve Asia with investment capital of $1 billion in Vietnam, and that it was highly possible that Da Nang’s IT Park or High-tech Park would be chosen to host this project.

Mr. Le Canh Duong, Director of the Investment Promotion Centre of Da Nang, said the information may mislead readers. Previously, at a meeting on August 4 on Da Nang’s FDI attraction in the first half of 2016, Duong reported that the center had welcomed many foreign business delegations who came to learn about Da Nang’s investment environment, including Apple.

Duong said Apple went to Da Nang to survey the investment situation 4-5 months ago. At that time an Apple delegation also visited other cities like Hanoi and HCM City.

"Since then, we have not received any feedback from Apple but some newspapers wrote in a way that could make readers think that Apple had decided to choose Da Nang for its investment,” Duong said.

Duong said such information would negatively affect Da Nang’s investment promotion activities so he asked the press to research carefully before reporting about the investment situation.
