Following the unveiling of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo on Sept. 9, Apple adjusted the starting prices of four existing iPhone models on its US online store, raising each by $100.

iPhone 16: $799, up $100
iPhone 17e: $699, up $100
iPhone 17: $899, up $100
iPhone Air: $1,099, up $100

All four models have therefore received a $100 price increase. Following the introduction of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, Apple also discontinued sales of the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

In Vietnam, prices for the iPhone 17, iPhone 17e, iPhone 16 and iPhone Air have also risen by several million dong.

Ahead of Apple’s Sept. 9 iPhone event, reports had suggested that the company could raise prices for the iPhone 17 lineup once the iPhone 18 Pro models were introduced in September. Those expectations gained further support following recent comments by CEO Tim Cook about the possibility of “unavoidable” price increases.

In late June, Cook told The Wall Street Journal that Apple could no longer continue absorbing rising costs for memory and storage chips. Demand for these components has surged as AI and “neocloud” companies accelerate the construction of data centers.

The wave of investment in AI infrastructure has fueled debate over whether actual demand is sufficient to justify the hundreds of billions of dollars being poured into the sector. For now, however, AI demand is adding pressure to semiconductor supplies.

Cook compared the current memory chip shortage to a once-in-a-century flood. “In more than 40 years, I have never seen anything like this in any field,” he said.
