In a statement shared with MacRumors, an Apple spokesperson said limited quantities of the iPhone Duo would be available for walk-in customers at Apple retail stores in selected countries when the device goes on sale on Friday, October 23.
The spokesperson added that Apple was "working hard" to get the iPhone Duo into customers' hands as quickly as possible.
According to Apple, preorder demand for the iPhone Duo has been exceptionally high, and the company expects available inventory to sell out quickly on launch day.
Apple said limited walk-in stock would be available on October 23 at its stores in the United States, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Mexico, Germany, the Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
The iPhone Duo will also be available at selected Apple Stores in Italy, although the company has not specified which locations will carry stock.
In Macau, Apple said the iPhone Duo would be sold exclusively to walk-in customers on launch day, with limited quantities available.
In Vietnam, a representative of a local retail chain told VietNamNet that deliveries beginning October 23 would be made gradually to customers who had already placed preorders.
Meanwhile, walk-in purchases will not be available on launch day in France, mainland China, India, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates.
Customers in these markets will need to reserve their devices through Apple's online store and select a specific time slot for collection at an Apple Store.
Apple has previously restricted walk-in purchases during certain product launches, partly to manage customer traffic and discourage scalping.
The company's online store is currently advising customers to check back on Saturday, October 24, for updated information on Apple Store pickup availability.
