Argentina expects to work with Vietnam to further boost its telecommunications and Internet sectors, as a mere nine million of the country’s population have access to broadband Internet, while 60% use 4G smartphones, heard attendees at a meeting between Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung and Andres Ibarra, Argentina's minister of modernization, on February 20.

Speaking at the meeting in Hanoi, Ibarra introduced a plan to develop Argentina’s telecom sector to Hung, stating that the country was in the process of digitalizing departments of the government and enterprises and applying technology to management and governance.

The representative of Argentina also pointed out that the country is in dire need of strong growth in its telecommunications sector, especially fixed-wide bandwidth, to bring the Internet to more of its people.

Argentina is currently home to three mobile service providers. There are still a number of remote regions facing difficulty in accessing the Internet.

According to Ibarra, his country has set a target of ensuring 100% of its people will be able to use the Internet in the coming time.

Some telecom and Internet firms in Argentina, however, have yet to apply modern technology to supply these services to residents. As a result, the government of Argentina expects to cooperate with Vietnamese enterprises to explore and utilize the potential market to fulfill its target.

At the meeting, Minister Hung remarked that the Government and Vietnamese firms were interested in Argentina’s market, adding that Vietnam’s telecom provider Viettel had drawn up a plan to supply telecom services to Argentina a few years ago.
