Gaston Merlo is favoured to win the title of  "best scorer" this season after the 24th round match of the V.League last weekend.

SHB Da Nang's Argentinean striker scored a double against Sai Gin FC during their match on their home turf, Chi Lang Stadium. SHB Da Nang won 3-1 and continued their hopes of winning the tournament title again.

Merlo has grabbed 20 goals, five more than runner-up Hoang Vu Samson of Hanoi T&T, who did not play on Sunday because of illness and whose ability to come back soon is unclear.

There are two rounds left before the V.League ends.

SHB Da Nang will play former champion Hoang Anh Gia Lai on September 11 in Chi Lang.

Merlo won the best scorer title in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
