The image of a woman tackling a mountain of housework after work whilst her husband relaxes on a sofa reading a newspaper or watching TV is not rare in Vietnam. In modern society, more Vietnamese men have begun doing housework but the topic remains controversial.

The man in the film has all the housework. The film is part of the campaign launched by UNDP Vietnam to achieve equality for all. Men doing the housework seems unusual as many Vietnamese normally think that this work should be done by women.

It shows an expectation in the Vietnamese society that women should do all the housework from taking care of their husbands and children to cooking and washing. Sadly, the expectation has lasted for a long time and continues in modern society for several reasons.

Men do the housework doesn’t make them lose face. On the contrary, it helps women feel that they are loved.
