The shining performances of swimmer Vo Thanh Tung and powerlifter Dang Thi Linh Phuong helped bring home two more gold medals for Vietnam at the ongoing 2018 Asian Para Games in Indonesia (INAPG 2018) on October 8.




Vo Thanh Tung wins the second gold medal for Vietnam's swimming team at the 2018 Asian Para Games. 


Vo Thanh Tung finished supreme and broke the Games record in the men’s 50m backstroke S5 event with a time of 40.32 seconds, 2.68 seconds faster than the silver medalist, Al-khafaji Qasim of Iraq, and 3.54 seconds faster than third-placed Jamery Siga of Malaysia.

Dang Thi Linh Phuong claimed the women’s 50kg title with a best lift of 103kg, followed by Khatun Sakina of India and Abdykhalykova Gulbanu of Kazakhstan with respective lifts of 84kg and 82kg.

The success of Tung and Phuong increased Vietnam’s INAPG 2018 gold medal tally to four, with the previous two secured by powerlifter Nguyen Binh An in the men’s 54kg category and swimmer Nguyen Thanh Trung in the men’s 100m breaststroke discipline.

Powerlifter Chau Hoang Tuyet Loan clinched Vietnam’s only silver medal so far in Indonesia after finishing second in the women’s 55kg category with a lift of 105kg, 8kg fewer than that of the gold medal winner, Kuzieva Ruza of Uzbekistan.

In addition, Vietnam won four additional bronze medals on Monday thanks to powerlifter Nguyen Van Phuc (men’s 59kg) and swimmers Le Tien Dat (men’s 100m breaststroke SB7), Vo Huynh Anh Khoa (men’s 400m freestyle S8) and Ha Van Hiep (men’s 50m backstroke S4).

As of 9pm on October 8, Vietnam stood in seventh place in the provisional standings with a collection of four golds, one silver and five bronzes.
