The police conducted an emergency search of the office premises of the Motor Vehicle Inspection Department on December 28, 2022, on the sixth floor of the Vietnam Register building located at 18 Pham Hung Street, My Dinh Ward, Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi, cited Vietnam News Agency.

After the search warrant was announced, some officers absent from work were convened for the investigation. Meanwhile, investigators under the Ministry of Public Security inspected all office computers containing images of inspection centers and laptops with electronic information to reinforce the evidence.

Earlier, the police launched an investigation into the issuance of technical safety and environmental protection certification for over 70,000 motor vehicles at 12 auto inspection centers in HCMC, Long An, Tien Giang, Soc Trang, Dong Thap and Ben Tre.

Till now, the HCMC police have pressed charges against 37 suspects for a probe into the brokerage, giving and taking of bribes and falsification of documents.

Some 11 inspection centers in Northern Vietnam have been suspended from operation for one to three months due to violations of regulations on providing registration and inspection services. Of these, six centers in HCMC were under the management of the Vietnam Register and the other five centers in the Mekong Delta region were operated by the private sector.
